Mott Groom To Head Gulf Oil Trading GmbH

A company that will specialize in trading with Eastern European countries has been established in Vienna, Austria, by the Gulf Oil Corporation.

Known as Gulf Oil Trading GmbH, the new venture will be managed by Gulf Trading and Transportation Company, (GT&T), one of seven Gulf divisional companies.

Mott L. L. Groom, formerly vice president-planning and project development for GT&T, has been named to head the company in Vienna.

"We hope to bring all of the purchasing, sales and transportation resources of GT&T to bear in our commitment to developing this market," said Mr. Groom.

"There are significant opportunities for trading Gulf's crude oils in Eastern Europe and for applying our related business skills there as well." Initially, Gulf Oil Trading will deal in both sales and acquisitions of crude oil and refined products, and in providing transportation not only of oil but of liquid petroleum gases and other specialty cargoes, according to Mr. Groom.

"We also plan to get into the trading of coal, coke, carbon and nonferrous metals," said Mr.

Groom, "of course, Gulf products will comprise the core of our marketing effort for Eastern Europe •—things such as lubricating oil, aviation fuels and marine fuels." Mr. Groom joined Gulf in 1966 as an analyst in the field of international crude oil sales and worked in various positions within that discipline until October 1972, when he was appointed assistant to the executive, coordinating the activities of Gulf's executive-level management.

In September 1973, he was named refinery manager of Gulf's Puerto Rico refinery and held that post until June 1975, when he assumed the planning post for GT&T.

Mr. Groom is a 1964 graduate of Albion College in Michigan with a B.A. degree in economics and history and holds a master's degree in international economics from the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy in Medford, Mass.

The address of Gulf Oil Trading GmbH is: Cobdengasse #2, Vienna A1010, Austria.
