Shipbuilding Standards Groups Seeking Participants

ASTM Committee F-25 on Shipbuilding, and The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) Panel SP-6 on Marine Industry Standards, are seeking participants to join in their standards development activities.

The two groups are working cooperatively to implement marine industry standards that will result in reduced costs and reduced design, construction, and repair time for marine vessels.

At a recent meeting of F-25 and the SNAME Panel, the objectives of the Department of Defense Value Engineering Committee were discussed.

The DoD is investigating ways to reduce costs and improve quality by adopting ASTM industry standards, wherever possible, in lieu of Navy Military Specifications.

Individuals and organizations interested in the work of Committee F-25 should contact ASTM staff manager Katharine Schaaf, ASTM Standards Development Division, 1916 Race Street, Philadelphia, Pa. 19103, (215) 299- 5529. Those interested in SNAME Panel SP-6 should contact Thomas O'Toole, Bath Iron Works Corporation, Department 56, 700 Washington Street, Bath, Maine 04530, (207) 443- 3311, ext. 2943.
