PRMSA Appoints Lugo Executive Director

Roberto Lugo D'Acosta, a wellknown figure in both Puerto Rican shipping and governmental circles, has been appointed executive director of the Puerto Rico Maritime Shipping Authority.

PRMSA operates Navieras de Puerto Rico, whose fleet of ro/ro and container vessels provides the most comprehensive ocean cargo service in the U.S./Puerto Rico trade to San Juan from six East and Gulf Coast ports.

A 12-year steamship veteran, Mr. Lugo most recently was in charge of the Puerto Rico operations of Transamerican Trailer Transport (TTT), which operated large ro/ro vessels in the U.S./ Puerto Rico trade, 1968-74. Previously, the new PRMSA executive director served as Seatrain's vice president and general manager in Puerto Rico.

From 1951 to 1964, Mr. Lugo held policy making posts with the Island government. He was comptroller of the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company (PRIDCO), director of the Maritime Department of the Puerto Rico Ports Authority, and held a variety of positions in the Treasury Department.

Mr. Lugo is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico.
