Earle Pitt Elected Foxboro Board Chairman

Earle W. Pitt, president of The Foxboro Company, Foxboro, Mass.

02035, was elected chairman of the board of directors at the board's first meeting of the year 1977.

He succeeds Ralph Hayden, who retired in December, and also stepped down as a director.

Mr. Pitt will continue as the company's president and chief executive officer.

The new chairman, a career Foxboro employee, j o i n e d the company in 1948 after receiving his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Southern Methodist University. He became president in 1970 and chief executive officer in 1973, succeeding Mr.

Hayden in both positions.

After beginning his Foxboro career with sales engineering as- signments in Dallas, Texas, and Shreveport, La., Mr. Pitt served as branch sales office manager in Los Angeles before moving to Foxboro in 1961 as western field sales manager.

He functioned successively as home office sales manager and vice president and general manager before he assumed the responsibilities of general manager of U.S. operations in November 1965. He was elected a director and executive vice president in 1968, and became president and chief of operations in December 1970.

Mr. Pitt, a resident of Sharon, Mass., is a veteran of service with the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He is a director of the New England Merchants Bank and the Norwood Hospital Intercommunity Foundation; a trustee of St. Michael's College in Winooski, Vt.; a member of the corporation at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass., and a member of the Instrument Society of America.

Mr. Pitt was selected as one of the most outstanding executives in the nation in the 1975 and 1976 Chief Executive of the Year Awards Competitions sponsored by Financial World Magazine.
