Marvin Griffin Joins Matson Navigation Co.

Dr. Marvin A. Griffin, University of Alabama professor of computer science and industrial engineering, has joined Matson Navigation Company in San Francisco, Calif., as a vice president, it was announced by R.J.

Pfeiffer, Matson president.

Dr. Griffin, who previously served with Matson in the early 1960s as chief industrial engineer, is responsible for corporate development, research and planning activities, industrial engineering and systems and computer services.

As Matson's chief industrial engineer in 1960-61, Dr. Griffin directed the establishment of Matson's industrial engineering program. He left to join the University of Alabama faculty in September 1961.

Dr. Griffin received a Bachelor of Science Management degree from Auburn University, a Master of Science Engineering degree from the University of Alabama, and Doctor of Engineering degree from The Johns Hopkins University where he also took post-doctoral studies.

He was associate director of an operations research group at Johns Hopkins before joining Matson the first time in June 1960.
