Spiltrol Harbor Skimmer Delivered

Seaward International, Inc., recently delivered another Spiltrol Harbor Skimmer to Asiatic Petroleum Corporation. This is the second that Asiatic has purchased, and it will clean up spills in the Strait of Malacca. The first stands ready at Singapore where Esso Singapore Private, Ltd., also has a Spiltrol Harbor Skimmer.

The new aluminum-hulled vessel includes several design innovations.

It recovers oil at a speed of 1.6 knots, sweeping a path 20 feet wide. Oil funnels into the patented tube-bundle-and-baffle arrangement contained in the hull, and then is pumped to onboard tanks. Storage capacity is 28 barrels.

Propulsion is provided by an inboard-outboard drive. With this unit, the seven-ton, 25-foot-long Spiltrol Harbor Skimmer deploys to a spill at six knots. The inboard- outboard drive, as well as the transfer pump and the dispersant applicator pump, is powered by a General Motors 3-53 diesel.

Further information on the Spiltrol Harbor Skimmer may be obtained from Carolyn S. Hall, Seaward International, 6269 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, Va.
