Western Shipbuilders Elect Alfred Moloney Association President

Alfred J. Maloney, general manager of Bethlehem Steel Corporation's San Pedro, Calif., shipyard, recently was elected president of the Western Shipbuilding Association.

Mr. Maloney was elected during the association's board of directors meeting, held in the St.

Francis Hotel in San Francisco, Calif. He succeeds Thomas B.

Crowley, president of Crowley Maritime Corporation, who has served as the group's president for the past three years.

The first person from southern California ever elected president of the Western Shipbuilding Association, Mr. Maloney has worked at Bethlehem's San Pedro yard since 1941. He joined the yard after studying industrial engineering at the University of Southern California, and worked as a test engineer and sales engineer before being named assistant general manager in 1962. He has been the yard's general manager since 1963.

Mr. Maloney is a member of The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, The Propeller Club, Port of Los Anereles- Long Beach, Long Beach Yacht Club, and the Bilge Club.
