Roland Kjelland Named Executive Vice President Kaiser Steel Corp.

Roland A. Kjelland has been named executive vice president, Kaiser Steel Corporation, 300 Lakeside Drive, Oakland, Calif.

94666, responsible for the corporation's raw materials and shipping activities.

In his new position, Mr. Kjelland will have total responsibility for the development of Kaiser Steel's raw materials reserves, the supply of raw materials for use at the company's Fontana Steelmaking facility, and the sale of raw materials to non-Kaiser customers.

The establishment of this new position, reporting to William R.

Roesch, chief executive officer, reflects Kaiser Steel's increased emphasis on raw materials development, sales and management as part of the corporation's program to upgrade its raw materials burden, extend its reserves, and reduce costs.

Mr. Kjelland will also manage Kaiser International Shipping Corporation, a wholly owned sub- sidiary of Kaiser Steel which owns five oceangoing transport vessels.

He also continues as a vice president of Kaiser Industries Corporation, and as president and chief executive officer of National Steel and Shipbuilding Company.

NASSCO, the largest shipbuilder on the West Coast, is jointly owned by Kaiser Industries and Morrison Knudsen Company, Inc.

It currently has a $550-million backlog of uncompleted work, representing 12 ships scheduled for delivery between now and 1980.

Mr. Kjelland is also a director of Kaiser Steel Corporation and Kaiser Resources, Ltd., Kaiser Steel's 33-percent-owned Canadian coal mining affiliate.

During his 26 years with the Kaiser organization, Mr. Kjelland has served in various financial, administrative and operating capacities.

He was named vice president and controller of Kaiser Jeep Corporation in 1967, after completing assignments with Willys Overland do Brasil and Sao Paulo, and with Kaiser Jeep International.

He joined Kaiser Steel as treasurer in 1970.

A native of Valley City, N.D., Mr. Kjelland was graduated from the University of Michigan in 1950.
